Julie Higgs

Julie Higgs

Julie Higgs is a nationally ranked spearfisher, world-record holder, and frontline firefighter paramedic based in St. Lucie County, Florida. She has carved out a place as one of the top female spearfishers in the world—all while serving her community as a full-time first responder.

Raised in a family of firefighters and watermen, Julie’s journey began early. She was scuba diving on her father’s back at just five years old and shot her first fish by age 13. What started as a childhood passion quickly evolved into elite competition: she is now a two-time Women’s National Spearfishing Champion and several IUSA-certified world records.

Off the water, Julie serves as a firefighter paramedic—a role that demands grit, discipline, and service. Her athletic training and mental toughness translate directly to both arenas, helping her thrive in two of the most physically demanding and male-dominated fields out there.

Julie is also a passionate advocate for sustainability and female inclusion in spearfishing. With women’s competition still underrepresented worldwide, she uses her platform to promote ocean stewardship and empower the next generation of female divers. She’s been featured in DeeperBlue, WPTV, WPBF, BroBible, The Daily Salt, Spearing Magazine, and has appeared on popular podcasts like Connected by Water and Science of Fishing.

On social media, Julie documents her catches, conservation practices, and behind-the-scenes adventures, with a rapidly growing fanbase across Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.

Whether she’s landing a record-breaking fish or saving lives in her community, Julie Higgs exemplifies courage, excellence, and the relentless pursuit of purpose—in the water and beyond.
